Pair of boating shipping related watercolour painting's by British artist Thomas Mortimer. The artist has signed ther painting's at the lower left corners. The painting's feature coastal views of fishing villages with various boats.
Thomas Mortimer, working circa 1880-1920 flourished around 1900, he was a watercolour artist who specialised in marine and coastal paintings. He is listed in Jeremy Wood's book 'Hidden talents' which says the following about Mortimer;
Painter in watercolour of harbours, coastal scenes and continental town and lake scenes who was working around 1900. The watercolours are often Beach scenes with figures asnd fishing boats and are usually found in pairs (such as this pair). The subjects include South Coast views, Dutch and French town scenes, and occasionally Venice.
The paintings have been reframed recently with gilt frames, and are both ready to hang. To the outside of the frames they are both approx 54.7cm x 44.7cm across, the actual paintings are approx 35.8cm x 23cm across.
The are 2 light patches above one of the boats in the images, this is just the light reflecting off the glass when I took the image and is not on the painting.
